-
- 2.0 Functional Changes
-
- This section describes new and changed functions contained
- in this CSD.
-
- 2.1 BOOTP
-
- The BOOTP command now has a -w switch to let you specify a
- timeout period.
-
-
- ┌─ -w 20───┐
- >>──BOOTP──┬─────┬──┼──────────┼── interface──────────────><
- ├─ -e─┤ └─ -w secs─┘
- └─ -t─┘
-
-
-
- -w Defines the number of seconds that the BOOTP command
- will wait for a response from the BOOTP server. If
- you omit this operand, the default is 20 seconds.
- You can enter an integer in the range 1 through 600
- representing the number of seconds.
-
- When you issue the command, BOOTP sends the request to
- its server and waits this specified number of seconds
- for a response. If it receives none, it tries up to
- two more times, each time waiting for the specified
- number of seconds. If it does not receive a response
- after that, the command ends.
-
- Also, you can now use CUSTOM to specify whether you want to enable your
- NDIS, ODI, or SLIP interface using BOOTP. If you select "Enable with
- BOOTP" on either the NDIS Interfaces or ODI Interfaces windows, you need
- only specify which interface is to be enabled. The IP address and
- subnet mask are supplied by BOOTP. If you select "Enable with BOOTP"
- on the SLIP Interfaces window, you need only specify the communication
- port and the modem speed to be used. The IP address and destination
- address are supplied by BOOTP.
-
-
- 2.2 FTP Command
-
- 2.2.1 SHOW Subcommand
-
- The FTP command has a new subcommand. The SHOW subcommand
- displays the contents of the selected file.
-
- SHOW filename.extension
-
- Example:
-
- SHOW MYFILE.TXT
-
- This subcommand displays screens full of the named file.
- When the screen is full, press any key to see the next
- screen.
-
- 2.2.2 RCMD (RC) Subcommand
-
- The RCMD subcommand executes a command on a remote host.
- Only output from the command that is sent to STDOUT is seen.
- (This command is not recognized by all FTP servers.)
-
- RCMD command
-
- Example:
-
- RCMD BATFILE
-
- Warning: Use this command with caution. If an error condition
- occurs, the FTP server may hang and be unable to accept FTP
- connections.
-
- 2.2.3 Keepdate Options
-
- When you get a file from an FTP server, the FTP command now lets you
- keep the file date as it was set on the server rather than changing the
- file date to the current date. You can set this option in several ways:
- from the command line, with the toggle subcommand, with the keepdate
- subcommand, or in the profile.
-
- NOTE: If the original date cannot be preserved, FTP displays a message.
-
- 2.2.3.1 Using the /k Switch
-
- On the command line, you can use the -k switch to set the keepdate
- function on:
-
- FTP /k
-
- 2.2.3.2 The keepdate Subcommand
-
- After you start FTP, you can toggle the keepdate function on or off with
- the keepdate subcommand. Each time you issue the keepdate subcommand, FTP
- toggles the /k flag on of off.
-
-
- 2.2.3.3 The toggle Subcommand
-
- After you start FTP, you can set the keepdate function on or off with
- the toggle subcommand:
-
- toggle k
-
- This command toggles the keepdate function on and off.
-
- 2.2.3.4 In the TCPDOS.INI File
-
- You can set the default value for the keepdate function in the [FTP]
- stanza in the TCPDOS.INI file. Set the keepdate option to 1 or to 0:
-
- keepdate=n can be 0 (off) or 1 (on)
-
-
- 2.2.3.5 Status Information
-
- When you issue the status subcommand, the status of the keepdate switch
- is reported like this:
-
- Keep remote file date: on
-
- or
-
- Keep remote file date: off
-
-
- 2.3 WTELNET
-
- 2.3.1 Trace Option
-
- There is now a built-in trace option from the OPEN SESSION
- icon on the main menu.
-
- 2.3.2 PF Key Mappings
-
-
- The function sequences defined for PF13 - PF20 when remapped
- by SETTERM have been corrected for WTELNET ANSI emulation.
- Previously, attempting to remap a key to the PF13 function
- resulted in it being remapped to the PF11 function sequence.
- Remapping PF14 resulted in the key being remapped to the
- sequence represented by PF12. This has been corrected.
- In addition, PF21 and PF22 are no longer valid remapping values
- for WTELNET ANSI. They are not defined by the VT220
- specification.
-
- The default key values for WTELNET ANSI are unchanged.
-
-
- 2.4 WMAIL
-
- 2.4.1 Signature File
-
- You can add a signature file at the end of outgoing
- mail. A new menu item is added to the main window.
-
- 2.4.2 External Gateway Support
-
- You can enclose a note within a note to send mail through
- secure gateways.
-
- 2.4.3 Multiple POP Servers and POP/3 Servers
-
- You can use more than one POP server during a single
- WMAIL session. WMAIL now also supports the POP/3 protocol.
-
- 2.4.4 Send Options Dialog
-
- A Send Options dialog asks you whether to save a copy of
- the outgoing mail, and into which folder to save it.
-
- 2.4.5 Groups List Enhancements
-
- You can now use nicknames that have embedded spaces in
- the Groups List.
-
- 2.4.6 SMTP
-
- You can set your username and "reply-to" field in an SMTP
- dialog box, as well as set the SMTP server feature on and
- off.
-
- 2.4.7 Reply to Mail
-
- When viewing a piece of mail, you can reply to the
- sender by selecting Reply from the Mail menu.
- The reply options are:
- Reply to sender
- Reply with attachments
- Forward
-
- 2.4.8 Unattach File
-
- Mail that you receive can have an attached file. Use the
- Unattach File option to separate the file from the mail.
-
- 2.4.9 View Header
-
- Use the View header push button while reading a note to
- view the mail header.
-
- 2.5 PING and WPING
-
- The default packet size for PING and WPING is 64 bytes.
-
- 2.6 ODI Example
-
- If you are trying to connect to a Novell Netware file server
- using TCP/IP 2.1.1 for DOS, try adding this to your NET.CFG
- file.
-
- protocol tcpip
- bind TOKEN
-
- protocol ipx
- bind TOKEN
-
- link support
- buffers 8 1920
-
- link driver token
- max frame size 1536
- frame token-ring_snap
- frame token-ring
- protocol arp 806 token-ring_snap
- protocol ip 800 token-ring_snap
- protocol ipx E0 token-ring
-
-
- 2.7 SLIP Changes
-
- 2.7.1 SLIP VJ Compression
-
- SLIP VJ Compression is unavailable in this release.
- If you set VJ Compression, it will be ignored.
-
- 2.7.2 SLIP FIFO Size
-
- You can now set the SLIP transmit and receive buffer threshold
- values in the SLIP stanza of TCPDOS.INI. The format of this
- new parameter is:
-
- SLIP.x.FIFO=f
-
- where:
-
- x is the SLIP interface (0, 1, ...)
-
- f is the value to set as the transmit/receive threshold level
-
- The valid values for f are 1, 4, 8, or 14. If you specify an
- invalid value, or if a type 1 UART is detected, the value 1
- is used.
-
- Note: This parameter is valid for type 2 UARTs only.
-
- Example:
-
- To set SLIP interface 1 to a threshold value of 14, code
- this in the SLIP stanza.
-
- slip.1.fifo=14
-
- This threshold value is used to determine the number of
- characters that can be stored in the transmit or receive
- buffers in the UART chip on the adapter. When the
- transmit or receive buffer reaches its threshold value, the
- UART signals the SLIP program to read or write the buffer.
- For example, if you specify a value of 14, the UART will
- cause an interrupt after it has transmitted or received 14
- characters.
-
- You can improve the performance of some workstations by
- setting this value high enough to reduce the number of
- serial communications interrupts.
-
- 2.8 LPR Print Parameters
-
- To define print parameters, add the following lines to
- your TCPDOS.INI file:
-
- [lpr]
- lpr.printer=printer
- lpr.server=print_server
- lpr.user=userid
-
- where:
-
- printer
- Identifies the print queue to be used.
-
- printer_server
- Identifies the print server to be used.
-
- userid
- Identifies the user. This information is printed on
- the banner page.
-
- 2.9 SMC Device Drivers
-
- If you are using the SMC device drivers shipped with this
- product, please review SMC's terms and conditions for use
- of the their device drivers. This information can be found
- in the SMCREL.DOC file in the \TCPDOS\DOC sub directory.
-
- 2.10 MTU Size
-
- A new parameter (mtu xxxx) has been added to ifconfig. It
- allows you to change the MTU size for your adapter.
-
- >>──IFCONFIG──interface──mtu──value───────────────────────><
-
- interface Specify which interface.
-
- MTU value Enter the characters MTU followed by the
- new value for the MTU size.
-
- To determine the MTU size for your adapter, issue the following
- command:
-
- netstat -ian
-
- The following is a partial print out of the "netstat -ian"
- query.
-
- Name Mtu Network Address Ipkts Ierrs Opkts Oerrs Coll
- nd0 2000 9.67.96 9.67.111.181 24870 0 1643 0 0
-
- In this example, the MTU size for the nd0 adapter is 2000 bytes.
- To change the MTU size for nd0 to 1500 bytes, issue the following
- command:
-
- ifconfig nd0 mtu 1500
-
- You can now run "netstat -ian" again to verify that the MTU
- size has been changed.
-
- The MTU size defaults to the maximum MTU size that the adapter
- supports.
-
-
- 2.11 WFTP Changes
-
- 2.11.1 Rename Window
-
- On the Rename window, the No pushbutton has been changed to No Rename.
-
- 2.11.2 Delete Window
-
- On the Delete window, the Deselect and Cancel pushbuttons are new.
-
- 2.11.3 File Transfer Thermometer
-
- When you transfer files with WFTP, a thermometer graphic shows you
- the progress of the transfer.
-
- 2.11.4 MVS JES File Transfer
-
- The Configure Menu has an MVS JES File Format option.
-
- 2.11.5 Status Line Scroll
-
- The Status Line now scrolls through the last 25 actions.
-
- 2.12 SETTERM Changes
-
- SETTERM no longer allows remapping of PF21 or PF22 for VT220,
- VT100, and ANSI. PF21 and PF22 are not defined by the VT220
- specification. They can no longer be remapped.
-
- 2.13 Changes in SYSTEM.INI
-
- If you are using TCPODI and Windows together, then you
- MUST have the following entry in the Windows SYSTEM.INI file:
-
- [386enh]
- timercriticalsection=10000
-
- 2.14 ROUTED Shutdown
-
- If you autostart ROUTED, and then use TCPSTOP to shutdown
- TCP/IP, TCPSTOP exits before completing the shutdown. You
- must run TCPSTOP a second time to shutdown all TCP/IP
- components.
-
